Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju released last year still holds many boxoffice records. Salman Khan starrer released way back in 2015 had held all the opening and lifetime records for Indian films in Pakistan. But Rajkumar Hirani directed Sanju broke many records held by Sultan most importantly it broke the lifetime record of Sultan.
Sultan had collected over PKR 330 million back in 2016 and no Indian film could even hit PKR 250 million since then. Sultan was a solo Eid release and since then no film has seen a solo release on Eid. Sanju released in 2018 and it released during a non Holiday period with many other films flooding the cinemas. And the film not only breached 250 and 300 million marks rather it also cruised past the lifetime collections of Sultan and became first Indian film to hit PKR 350 million mark. Sanju ended its run around PKR 375 million and stands tall as the highest grossing Indian film till date in Pakistan.
Sanju had also created many opening records. The film had second biggest opening day of all time only behind Sultan. Whereas, Sanju had raked in over PKR 102.5 million in the opening weekend becoming only second film ever to hit 100 million mark over the Weekend. Sanju’s opening weekend stands as the 3rd biggest opening weekend till date only behind Avengers: Endgame and Sultan.
Sanju then wrapped its opening Week with around PKR 186.5 million and it was second biggest opening week back then. This opening week numbers still stands high as the 4th highest opening week of all time. The film had magical performance in its opening week’s weekdays. The film had contributed a massive PKR 8.4 million from Monday-Thursday period in its opening week which is the biggest weekdays contribution ever.
Ranbir Kapoor starrer showed such thumping figures despite having a complete non-Holiday release. There is a myth among the film industry of Pakistan that a film can open big only if it is released on Eid but Sanju proved it wrong. Just three weeks later Teefa In Trouble ruled the boxoffice with staggering business. Both the film proved the myth wrong that only Eid can produce big results.
