Disney’s The Lion King has at last hit the screens across the world. Live action remake of 1994’s blockbuster, The Lion King had met with discouraging reviews by critics before release. The film had opened a week early in China and the film dipped badly in China after the opening Weekend.
Going into the weekend, trade was expecting an opening weekend of over $ 190m for The Lion King. If the expectations are met then it would be largest opening of all time for live action genre outpacing Beauty and The Beats’s $ 174.7m. Furthermore, The Lion King would also registers all time biggest July opening beating Warner Bro’s Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part’s $ 169m.
The Lion King has opened on par with the biggest films of all time on Thursday night in the previews. Live action has raked in $ 23m on Thursday night from previews which outpace Beauty and The Beast with big margin. Beauty and The Beast had fetched $ 16.3m on Thursday before opening with $ 174.7m weekend.
