Disney’s The Lion King which is all set to hit the cinema screens worldwide on 19th July hasn’t been well received by critics in North America. Disney’s remake of 1994 classic had its premiere recently and the reviews from major entertainment portals from Hollywood are quite negative.

Shaan Shahid Bashes Shahrukh Khan For The Lion King

With 110 reviews counted, The Lion King’s score on Rotten Tomatoes stand as 58% which is way below the expectations. Most of the major critics have penned the film as major disappointment.

A.O. Scott at New York Times stated, ” The closer the movie gets to nature in its look, the more blatant, intrusive and purposeless its artifice seems.”

Hollywood Reporter also cticized the film.

“Everything here is so safe and tame and carefully calculated as to seem pre-digested. There’s nary a surprise in the whole two hours.”

Peter Bradshaw at Guardian gave it 3 stars out of 5.

“This is an anthro-leonine deepfake of impressive proportions, but the new Lion King gains in shock and awe while losing in character and wit.”

Forbes came even harder on the film as Scott Mendelson gave it just 3 scores out of 10.

“Be prepared for a shockingly dull remake that trades passion, emotion and excitement for “realism.”

Jake Coyle from Associated Press gave it mere 2 points out of 5.

“The Lion King” is missing something. A purpose, maybe, and a heart.”

Brian Lowry from CNN said.

“The result is a polished and satisfying film, yet one that conspicuously feels even more like a consumer product than most Disney revivals of its animated classics.”

Earlier Disney’s Aladdin had also seen very negative reviews from Critics with only 57% score at Rotten Tomatoes but the film has emerged a mega blockbuster at boxoffice with sustained run at ticket window for Weeks. After such reviews of The Lion King, Disney would expect a similar trending like Aladdin.

The “SHAH RUKH KHAN” Factor In The Lion King

The Lion King releases in both English and dubbed versions in Pakistan on 19th July. The dubbed version features Shah RUkh Khan as Mufasa.
