Once again the dramas that air on Saturday exceeded our expectations and made the decision of which drama to watch so much more harder! While every other day at least one drama fails to make a lasting impact, the dramas for Saturday one up each other repeatedly. With talented new actors in each of the dramas as well as stories that should be lauded for being phenomenal, Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Cheekh and Khud Parast have all made a place for themselves in our hearts.
Ranjha Ranjha Kardi (HUM TV) MD Productions
It cannot be emphasized enough: Imran Ashraf’s acting as Bhola is something else! This episode, Noori (Iqra Aziz) finally meets the man she has been married to and undergoes a series of varying emotions as she deals with this new change in her life. Iqra Aziz depicts her emotions so perfectly that the viewer feels the same as she does. And it goes without saying that Bhola is one of our favorite characters on television in a while! Both of these main characters were strategically selected and this choice has really paid off for the director and producer because Noori and Bhola are the biggest selling points of this drama. And the soundtrack, the sets for the house…all complement each other and come together to weave a beautiful story!
Khud Parast (ARY) Big Bang Entertainment
While the popularity of this particular drama could be explained due to the thrilling plotline, I still am largely disappointed with the way it is slowly developing. This week, Uswa (Ramsha Khan) continues on her path of destruction by shifting blame on Beenish (Nausheen Shah) and destroying her husband’s family once and for all. The plot is not something revolutionary or different, but it must be said that Ramsha Khan truly creates a dilemma for us. It is so hard to like Uswa yet at times her reason for her actions are understandable. And none of the other characters fall on the black and white side either; you can’t take sides while watching Khud Parast and that dilemma has become its biggest saving grace.
Cheekh (ARY) Big Bang Entertainment
We are completely blown away by this drama, and its only on its third episode. Cheekh certainly gets it shocking factor and plot twists right. This episode, Nayab (Ushna Shah) sadly dies due to her critical injuries but leaves a huge clue about who did this to her. However, she names “Raja” as the culprit, but this name applies to two people: Wajih and his drunk friend. And Yawer’s shady attitude and his adamant behavior also hints that he was involved as well. The writing is well done and it is such a delight to see Pakistani dramas incorporate a different genre into their plots, a far cry from the usual family dramas. It was sad to see Ushna Shah’s character leave so early on in the drama since she was the biggest pull factor, but we have a feeling that the audience won’t feel her loss as the action of the drama continues to rise.
It is such a close decision, but Cheekh is definitely on the rise for now! Not only does it have good ratings, it is also maintaining this high popularity on its first few episodes. It certainly is causing a lot of talk in the drama community and for good reason that’s for sure!
Ranjha Ranjha Kardi continues to be a second close decision, and my personal favorite due to the lead actors’ breathtaking performance. This drama will certainly be remembered for a while too.
