Thursday Drama Reviews

7th March Thursday 2019 dramas: Aangan VS Hania Vs Mera Rab Waris

While a lot of viewers are by now familiar with Aangan that has many people talking, we have two new dramas that we think you would really enjoy! Hania and Mera Rab Waris have just started and haven’t just garnered attention but also have eye-catching plots which we think would be really impactful in the coming weeks.

Aangan (Hum Tv) MD Productions

Now that Alia and her mother are in Azhar’s house things have started changing a lot. Alia and Chammi have started forming a closer bond but the fact that Jamil has caught Alia’s eye and vice versa hints that Chammi might not get along with Alia that well after all.

This week’s episode mostly focused on Chammi’s erratic attitude around the house and Alia and Jamil forming a love triangle. This episode was definitely a missed opportunity by the drama makers to either progress the story itself or at the very least explore some of the side characters and their nature. By missing it, the characters now seem hollow even the ones we loved before like Alia.

But all things considered, it was more of a relief episode as Chammi got more screen time and her antics are always entertaining, since Sajal Aly can make anything look fabulous on screen! We really hope future episodes actually progress so we can continue watching Aangan.

Hania (ARY) Six Sigma Production

ARY’s new drama Hania is only on its third episode now so it is still easy to catch up on. Hania, a middle-class girl gets married to an elite family’s son Junaid who, while attractive and rich, has hidden secrets as well as anger issues. Junaid’s obvious corrupt dealings became obvious last episode when he caught Hania going through his stuff and his over reacts.

This time, we find out through unrelated events that Junaid has been hiding his anger under facades and is actually not very nice. He finds faults in every little thing Hania does, who is desperate to earn his approval. On the other hand Hania’s father comes to know that Junaid is involved in shady dealings and struggles to come up with a solution to this problem as worry for his daughter takes over.

As far as a strong starting go, Hania is completely fine on that end. The only predictive problem I can see is that the theme of domestic abuse is tricky to handle as it is such a sensitive topic. Dramas like Kaisa Hai Naseeban are currently bringing it to light and are very successful, but sometimes it can come off the wrong way. As long as this drama handles it gracefully without glamorizing it, Hania is definitely worth watching!

Mera Rab Waris (Geo Tv) 7th Sky Entertainment

Moving on to GEO’s new drama, Mera Rab Waris follows Ayesha who is a conservative and religious girl who’s very smart and firm in her beliefs. We’re introduced to their family as well as Faizan who is Ayesha’s childhood friend and who Ayesha gives genuine advice and counsel to. Faizan is clearly in love with Ayesha but respects her and keeps his distance.

Then Haris and his family are introduced in a different light as liberal and rich class. Haris’ father is Ayesha’s father’s classmate from the past and he takes a liking to Ayesha and proposes that they marry her to Haris. For now, Haris seems to be uncaring about marriage while Ayesha is much more compliant but only for her parents.

The characters are definitely interesting and vibrant, despite being a bit clichéd and underdeveloped. The story has not progressed enough to be judged but our interest is piqued from the first episode and will keep an eye out for this drama!

Having already established its strength, Aangan wins this week but it seems it has some really strong contenders now which will be making it difficult for Aangan to win so easily! Hopefully with more competition Aangan will show visible improvement instead of it getting stuck on the same track again and again.
