Saturday Drama Reviews: Ranjha Ranjha Kardi Vs Cheekh

Cheekh (ARY) Big Bang Entertainment

Last episode had left us on a cliffhanger, but thankfully that twist turned out to be a pleasant one as Shayan reveals that he has started to believe Mannat and is going to take her side. His conversation with Asad was revealing not just of Shayan’s own fortitude as a person but also Asad’s reasoning for leaving Haya and the logic behind his decisions.

With Asad having told him the truth, Shayan makes Mannat go to her mother’s house not because he wants to get her out of his life but to protect her from his own family. The fact that Shayan has decided to take Mannat’s side in all this was the perfect way to develop the relationship between husband and wife, and I think this is far better of a plot device than having Shayan being against Mannat.

We really don’t see a lot of healthy marriages in dramas and Shayan and Mannat were  a pleasant surprise! Shehwar is also starting to become doubtful of Yawar but for now she has not openly declared her support for Mannat. Wajih’s lawyer also becomes a prominent character this episode as he will continue to play a major role later on as well, but Mannat has proven herself to be strong against anyone be they the police or lawyers.

Is ‘Cheekh’ an adaption of the 1993 Indian film ‘Damini’?

Cheekh

I think the way the episodes have different pacing each time has made the drama a pleasure to watch since the audience really don’t know what to expect from each episode! The surprise factor combined with expert storytelling and a talented cast has given Cheekh a very unique plus point in comparison to its competing dramas.

While Cheekh might have the surprise factor down, it still is no competition to Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’s more profound and rich characters as well the intense story itself. Noori continues to doubt her marriage with Bhola even though at this point she faces danger from her past being discovered once more.

So What Ensues After Noori Comes Face to Face With Her Pseudo Ranjha?

While Bhola tries his best to win her over like before, Noori finds herself getting angry at him. However, Fehmida makes sure to remind Noori the only reason she has such comfort is because she is Bhola’s wife. Noori also is faced with Sahir’s changed emotions as he wants her back in his life; his true intentions are, as always, confusing which is central to Sahir’s character.

Cheekh’s Characterization A Class Apart!

Nusrat and his wife are also getting closer to finding Noori’s true past and chachi by the end of the episode figures out where Noori is actually from and what had led her to Fehmida’s house. The result of this knowledge will be crucial to the development of the story, since right now Noori is just beginning to be grateful for everything she has. The way the rather negative and self-interested side of Noori’s character is brought to light again was done pretty well too as during previous episodes we forgot that Noori in the end was a flawed human after all.

These factors, small though they may be, really play a huge role in how each of the character becomes sympathetic to the audience. So once more it must be said: Ranjha Ranjha Kardi has made a beautiful story come to life!

Verdict

While Cheekh certainly has us on the edge of our seats every time, it does not come close to the beauty of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’s story and the attraction of its characters! It’s clear that the latter drama is going to join the favorite dramas in the history of Pakistani film industry and every episode leaves us blown away.
