Last Week saw release of new Punjabi Film Kala Shah Kala. Over time Punjabi films have started to fare well at the boxoffice and it looks like small centers like Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sialkot are becoming regular centers for these films.
Kala Shah Kala had stiff competition from Gully Boy as Gully Boy had taken most screen space leaving the film with minimal number of shows. Yet it raked in a whooping 1 crore approx in it’s opening Week making it debut among one of the best openings ever for Punjabi films.

Film has retained shows in Week two also and it can be anticipated that the film will be well received. Looking at the numbers of such comedy films we can tell that Punjabi films have good market in Pakistan provided they are promoted well.

This is definitely a good sign for local cinema as well, as this year we will see the release of biggest film of Pakistani Cinema ever and it will be in Punjabi language as well. Starring Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick, Bilal Lashari’s The Legend Of Maula Jatt will release on Eid ul Fitr.
