Saqib Malik directorial feature film Baaji will be getting its theatrical release on 28 June 2019. So far the makers have released three songs from the film all providing vast variety. While we got some fun rap mixed with 90’s nostalgia in Khilti Kali, Badlaan is a slow soft track showing transition.
The latest track of the film to be released is an item number and features the Billi star Mehwish Hayat . The actress looks ravishing in the song which has been sung by famous Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chohan.
Ever since its release the song has been under fire and Mehwish in particular for being in the song. While some have compared Mehwish’s looks to Katrina, some have taken it too far. Trolls have been bashing the Tamgha Imitiaz winner with incessant name calling and what not.
Recently an Item song released, gangster guriya featuring @MehwishHayat, these kind of item songs promotes vulgarity and porno in our society. So let's play our role in stopping the item song trend in our film industry by disliking this video. link: https://t.co/lN5SkcFDC8
After all this Baaji’s hero Osman Khalid Butt has come to Mehwish’s defense in a series of Tweets:
This is the language used by a ‘social media influencer’ for a contemporary actress while criticizing her performance in a dance number. He has the nerve to bring religion into the mix. Pehlay apni zabaan saaf karen phir deen ka dars dijiye. https://t.co/vUNkVeW68z
Please. It’s not too much to ask that you be civil in your criticism. No one is taking away your freedom of speech or your right to call out something you feel strongly against. But that doesn’t give you the right to tag someone and hurl obscenities & vicious abuse their way.
The trend of social media trolling is nothing new but one that needs to be condemned and stopped. It is heartening for celebrities taking a stand for fellow fraternity members. Opinions should be shared but in a considerate manner, and that is our take away from Osman’s Tweets.
