The woman behind animated feature films 3 Bahadur, is coming out with Sitara: Let Girls Dream. Sitara is a short film and yet another effort by the filmmaker after the four episode series “Shattering The Silence”.
According to its by-line, the film takes the audience on a journey through the old city of Lahore, where, Pari, a fourteen-year-old girl dreams of becoming a pilot. Her story is told through the perspective of her younger sister, Mehr. SITARA is a story about the burdens of a family and the impact of a culture where girls are still struggling to fully realize their dreams.
What is interesting is that SITARA is a silent film (i.e. it features no dialogues). The film is being released by one of the leading online streaming service Netflix. The network will be making this film available in over 190 countries. The film carries a strong message, and is also part of Chinoy’s campaign Chime for Change, which encouraged girls around the world to share their aspirations with the #LetGirlsDream. The music for SITARA has been composed by Grammy and Emmy Award-Winning composer Laura Karpman.
