Mortal Engines is bound to be yet another mesmerizing movie as it has been produced by the makers of Lord of the rings and Hobbit. The enchanting tale is based on fantasy, adventure and action. The movie is based on Philip Reeve’s novel. The movie is all set to release in Pakistan on 7th December whereas it will release a week later in USA.
The trailer looks well crafted and manages to evoke our curiosity. Although the story line is not as compelling as Lord of the rings or Hobbit, however it is imaginative and quite interesting. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have created the screenplay for the movie.
The movie has been directed by Christian Rivers. It takes us one hundred years ahead in the future, to a time when civilization has been destroyed. In the beginning of the trailer we are told that the entire world saw destruction in mere 60 minutes. After which mankind mobilized and now a new age has araised. This age, is of the predator cities. We see, Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw, eyeing London suspiciously. London has become a giant predator city on wheels that devours everything in its path.
Hugo Weaving is playing the antagonist namely Valentine. We are shortly revealed that he killed Hester’s mother and has more secrets than that meets the eye. Hester, who is seeking vengeance for her mother’s death, joins forces with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), an outcast from London, along with Anna Fang (Jihae), a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head in order to stop Valentine from destroying all cities and take her revenge. The tale also introduced us to a machine that is capable of wiping out cities.
The trailer looks interesting but doesn’t leave a lasting impact. Therefore, the movie is likely not to fare as good as Lord of the rings or Hobbit.
The film also stars Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide and Stephen Lang. The visual effects have been created by a Weta Digital team led by Ken McGaugh, Kevin Smith, Luke Millar and Dennis Yoo. It has been produced by Zane Weiner and Amanda Walker who have also produced the Hobbit trilogy. Deborah Forte, Walsh and Jackson are also the producers.
The movie is being distributed world wide by Universal Pictures where as Footprint will be the distributors in Pakistan.
