Amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Modi government has decided to promote Urdu language in India. According to The Print, the Modi government wants Bollywood’s superstars Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif to mouth a few lines in Urdu and use them in videos. Seemingly, the actors will be used as role models to encourage the use of Urdu.

Reportedly, Modi government has realized that it has fallen behind private players in competition to promote the Urdu language.

An independent body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) is responsible for the promotion of Urdu Language in India. However so far they have only been producing literature in the language and now want to focus more on promoting the language.

This decision came after NCPUL faced tough competition from private players, The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) realized that the rival organizations are taking the lead by organizing events for the promotion of Urdu and drawing massive crowds of young people.

“The council has been tasked with the job of promoting Urdu as a language but all that we have been doing so far is producing literature in the language. We want to now focus “We are going to approach Bollywood actors, prominent names like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and make them say a few lines in Urdu, we will then use these videos in our events,” Aquil Ahmed, director of NCPUL, told ThePrint.
