MTV Video Music Award (VMA)) took place on Monday and Taylor Swift took home the biggest award of the night. She received the Video of the Year Award as well as Video for Good Award for her single “You Need To Calm Down” from her latest album “Lover”.
Missy Elliott received the Video Vanguard award in celebration of her decades long, genre-bending career. Missy is the first female emcee to be awarded the distinction. Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” earned him an award for song of the year.
Besides the major award three performances at the show went down as the most memorable ones of the night. They have been making the round on the internet.
1.Miley Cyrus’ Performance “Slide Away”
This was the first time the singer performed her post break up song. The singer had recently addressed her split with Liam Hemsworth on Twitter after she was accused of cheating on her husband who has now filed for divorce. The break up comes less than a year after the couple tied the knot. They had been together off and on for a decade.
“Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost, so it’s time to let it go.”
The lyrics of the song indicated that she is singing about her husband. She gave the performance in black and white which is impressive.
2.Taylor Swift’s Performance
Taylor performed her award winning single You Need to Calm Down. The performance was full of colors and some visual effects too. There was a little too much going on props wise on stage, but TayTay was awesome as always.
The second song she performed was my personal favorite. Taylor sang “Lover” and the crowd loved it as they grooved to her voice. They kept on cheering throughout the song adding more feel to the performance.
Camila Cabello shared best collaboration with Shawn Mendes for Senorita. They even set the floor on fire with their sizzling performance. The couple got really romantic and things got steamy on stage. They left fans wanting more. In fact celeb’s reaction like Sophie Turner was also priceless.
4.John Travolta Presented the Award to wrong Taylor Swift
It won’t be VMAs without some drama, so this time around John Travolta accidentally handed over the best video award to Jade Jolie – who was dressed in drag as Taylor Swift. It was both awkward and hilarious.
