Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh is emerging as a historical blockbuster at the domestic market. The film has raked in around INR 188 crores in 11 days. At the same time Kabir Singh has roped in $ 3.7m in 10 days from Overseas.
While domestic numbers are staggering, overseas numbers of the film are very poor. In Overseas market the film performed best is North America bringing in a business of around $ 1.5m. This accounts for the 40% of the total overseas business of Kabir Singh . Australia is performing second best for Shahid Kapoor starrer with A$ 700k in 10 days.
The numbers in all the Overseas markets are well below the mark as film lost huge chunk of business due to non release in Pakistan. Kabir Singh was not released in Pakistan due to the ban on Bollywood films. The rate at which Pakistani industry is growing and looking at the current release flow the film would easily have gone past PKR 10 crore mark in Pakistan in first 10 days. Kabir Singh had very bright chances of even hitting PKR 20 crore mark by the end of its run which means lifetime run would have gone around $ 1.5m.
Pakistani business for Kabir Singh would have been easily miles ahead of Australia, UK and UAE’s numbers and would have been second highest grossing market for the film. The film has lost at least a gross business of over $ 1.5m due to non release in Pakistan which is similar to its business in North America.
Meanwhile the absence of Bollywood films are giving more screen space to the Pakistani and Hollywood releases giving them a good push at the ticket windows. Baaji released this Week got huge number of shows and if Kabir Singh was in the market then it would have taken away good amount of shows from Meera’s Baaji.
