Todd Phillips directed Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker is still four weeks away from its release but the reviews have started to pour in. Joker had its premiere at Venice Film Festival and the response is amazing. The film even got a eight minutes standing ovation towards the end. The critics are full of praise and many are already putting Joaquin Phoenix as strong contestant for the Oscar.
The film’s current score at Rotten Tomatoes stands at an excellent 88% from 34 critics. Philip De Semlyen from Time Out gave the film a full five stars and said, ” This is a truly nightmarish vision of late-era capitalism – arguably the best social horror film since Get Out – and Joaquin Phoenix is magnetic in it.”
Xan Brooks from Guardian gave it five stars and said, ” Having brazenly plundered the films of Scorsese, Phillips fashions stolen ingredients into something new, so that what began as a gleeful cosplay session turns progressively more dangerous – and somehow more relevant, too.”
David Rooney from Hollywood Reporter gave a positive review writing, ” Not to discredit the imaginative vision of the writer-director, his co-scripter and invaluable tech and design teams, but Phoenix is the prime force that makes Joker such a distinctively edgy entry in the Hollywood comics industrial complex.”
Joker is all set to hit screens across Pakistan on 4th October.
