Bohemian Rhapsody was on a roll at the Oscars! The academy awards were held on February 24, and many well deserved artists took home the prestigious awards.The film was nominated in 5 categories and it managed to win in four. The film won best sound mixing, best film editing and best sound editing. What really put the evening over the top for Bohemian Rhapsody was when Rami Malek’s won the best actor category.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody was released in Pakistan in October by Footprint. Last week we saw an open week at cinema, in order to fill the slot many movies were brought back for re-runs including Bohemian Rhapshody.It will be interesting to see if it draws in audience especially after the recent Oscar buzz.

Meanwhile lets have a looks at how the film performed when it was originally release back in October 2018. Firstly, the film didn’t have that much face value for Pakistani audiences. It only had chances of getting good reception in major cities and multiplexes.

Secondly, there was heavy release flow in midst of which Bohemian Rhapsody was released. The audiences were also dispersed among the numerous releases

Thirdly, the film was for a niche audience and not the masses so it was expected to draw in limited crowd. Even so the film faced no competition from the Bollywood commercial films which didn’t impress at the box office.

Unexpectedly the Pakistani release The Donkey King took the box office by a storm and Bohemian Rhapsody was over shadowed by it. In light of all these facts, the film did a decent business.

It went on to collect 90 lacs at the box office. The biopic performed well primarily in major cities where audience were aware about the late Freddie Mercury and his band Queen.

It can be anticipated if Oscars have any credibility in the eyes of cinema going audiences in Pakistan, the film will now see some footfalls for the Oscar approved biopic!
