2018 has concluded on a strong note. Year’s third quarter turned out to be massive with most of the business being made in the third quarter.
The year saw many records being broken by multiple films. First Sanju became the highest grossing film in the history of Pakistani cinema during summers by collecting over 37.5cr approx. Three weeks later Teefa In Trouble saw massive business becoming the highest grossing Non-Holiday release in Pakistani films.
Then Eid ul Azha saw the spectacular business of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2. Not only did JPNA 2 break the records of Sanju, it also became the first and only film to hit a 50cr mark. Even Parwaaz Hai Junoon saw huge business with numbers going around 35cr approx.
We were also disappointed a little as Thugs of Hindostan collected below expectations. Zero has done a decent business but is also an under performer.
However, we were pleasantly surprised as The Donkey King emerged as the blockbuster of the year. Film has set new benchmarks for animated films and will retain its position for a very long time.
This year saw four films hitting 30cr mark which is a phenomenal achievement as previously only three films in the history of Pakistan managed to breach that mark.
The only record which no film could break this year was the opening day, weekend and opening week records of Sultan. Sultan created opening records back in 2016 and it has been more than 30 months now since any film has been able to beat these records with only Sanju coming close to it on day one. Whereas Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 missed this opening Week record with a slim margin.
13 films have crossed 10cr mark this year so far and Simmba is expected to hop on this bandwagon of success in coming days. Load Wedding, Race 3 and Parchi missed the 10cr mark with small margins.
Below are the films which crossed 10 cr mark in Pakistan while Simmba is anticipated to enter the list soon. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 has topped in the year of 2018 which marks the second consecutive successful year of Humayun Saeed as he leads this chart. In 2017, his film Punjab Nahi Jaungi led the race and 2018 is now being led by Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2.
