Salman Khan is easily one of the biggest boxoffice crowd pullers in Pakistan. And whenever superstar has come with action genre, he has been an unstoppable force at the boxoffice. Last film of Salman Khan to have full fledged release in Pakistan was way back in 2016 i.e. Sultan. And the opening records of Sultan are still intact as no Hindi film in three years have managed to break the opening records of Sultan.
Ever since Sultan, only one Salman Khan film has managed to hit at Pakistani cinemas i.e Race 3. Race 3 too wasn’t a simultaneous release rather it had released 8 days late in Pakistan. The film wasn’t the best of Salman Khan’s works as film carried negative reviews all over the social media hence it damaged film’s chances at Pakistani boxoffice.
By the time Race 3 had hit Pakistani screens the film already had huge negativity on the social media but that didn’t matter as Race 3 despite 8 days late release and having huge competition from films like 7 Din Mohabbat In and Jurassic World managed to bring in second biggest opening day for Hindi films by bringing in PKR 26.2 million approx on it’s opening day which had fell on Saturday.
The film had released on Saturday and had lost huge Friday footfall. Friday is always the best day for action genre as mass circuits which are the core audience of action films have half working day. If it had released on Friday, Day One could have gone toward PKR 30 million mark. Film’s opening day numbers still stand as third biggest opening day of all time for Hindi films only behind Sultan and Sanju.
Having 8 days late release amidst negativity and day one falling on Saturday damaged Race 3’s business in long run. The film still managed a six day long first Week of PKR 75 million. Furthermore, Race 3 got hit badly by release of Sanju in second Week which meant a massive drop in collections and film wrapped its lifetime business a little over PKR 90 million. Even though this number doesn’t look big on the paper but looking at all the factors, it is a very strong lifetime number. If the film had simultaneous release, it would have been much higher.
Nevertheless, this number back in its time was more than the business of any film of Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan and other bollywood biggies. Only the films of Khans i.e. Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan and Golmaal Again had done more business than Rave 3 at that time.
