The private screening of Malala Yousafzai’s biopic Gul Makai took place yesterday at Westfield Shepherd Bush Mall. Sanam Bhutto attended the event as the chief guest while Senator Anwar Baig and Pakistani actress Armeena Khan was also present at the screening.
Directed by Amjad Khan and written by Bhaswati Chakrabarty, the film is based on the life and struggle of a Pakistani teenager, an activist for girl’s education and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai.
Gul Makai features Reem Shaikh as Malala with a prominent role by the late Om Puri. The film also features the late Om Puri, Divya Dutta, Atul Kulkarni, Mukesh Rishi and Pankaj Tripathi.
The event had 500 dignitaries from around the world in attendance including Indian high commissions, British officials as well as members of the UN and IIMSAM.
Reportedly another screening of the film will be hosted mid-February at the UN headquarters in New York.
