The acclaimed film director Shahzad Rafique has many succesful films to his name including blockbuster film Salakhein, Nikkah, Gunghat and Mohabbataan Sachiyaan.

In an exclusive chat with Salute’s director we asked him to list his top 5 all time favorite Pakistani films. Here is his top 5 picks of Urdu films.

The Pakistani Urdu film Bandish was Nazrul Islam’s 1980 directorial film. Bandish starred Nadeem Baig and Shabnam in lead roles. The film was produced by Ahmad Shamsi.The film’s music was also much loved.


Zeba and Waheed Murad starred in a bold film which has a concept ahead of its time. The film was written and produced by Waheed Murad himself and directed by Parvez Malik.

3. Aina

The 1977 film Aina is again a directorial film by Nazrul Islam and it starred Nadeem Baig and Shabnam in the lead. The Urdu romantic film featured music by legendary singers Mehdi Hassan, Mehnaz, Nayyara Noor and Alamgir. The film was a box office success of that time.


The fourth movie that he chose is again a Nadeem Baig and Shabnam starrer. It also had actors Javed Sheikh and Ghulam Mohayuddin .It was directed by Muhammad Javed Fazil.

5.Yeh Aman

Riaz Shahid directed film Yeh Aman starred Muzaffar Adeeb, ¬†Allauddin, Abdul Karim Baloch. The film was on Occupied Kashmir and the Indian government’s atrocities on Kashmiris.
