Pakistan Television (PTV) is the first channel of Pakistan. At its pinnacle, the channel has graced us with several golden dramas that we still love and cherish. There was a time when PTV was a favorite among the households. Tanhaiyan, Dhop Kinarey, Aahan, Waris, Sunehray din and many others were some of the iconic dramas that made our 80s and 90s beautiful.
With the advent of private channels and with the passage of time, PTV has lagged behind. However, as the former MD of PTV, Arshad Khan has returned to the state run channel, the channel is like likely to progress. We saw improvement in the channel even when he was previously appointed. In addition, Khawar Azhar has been reappointed as the new head of content and marketing.
The highly professional management of PTV is now gearing up to give tough competition to private channels. The channel has just partnered up with a feature film, Gumm. This is the first time that PTV has partnered up with a private venture, previously PTV has been collaborating with ISPR.
While the film Malik was not a private film, but it did collaborate with PTV, however it was never premiered on PTV. Malik only saw promotions on PTV whereas Gumm will be the first film to see a TV premiere.
Gumm is being released on 11 January and will be the first film to hit the screens in 2019. The channel has acquired exclusive rights for its TV Premier.
The film stars Sami Khan, Shameen Khan and Shamoon Abbasi. The film has been produced and directed by the husband and wife duo Ammar Lasani and Kanza Zia. Ammar Lasani specializes in direction and his wife has done a masters in cinematography.
