We previously shared the list of the highest grossing films of the year 2018. We are now revealing the highest grossers of Pakistan down the memory lane. We will be telling you the highest grosser of each year starting with 2011.
Bol:Bol saw release back in 2011 and turned out to be a rage hit. Film not only became the highest grosser of the year, it also broke all time records which were earlier held by Khuda Ke Liye. The film was helmed by Shoaib Mansoor and collected 11cr approx. It became the first film to hit a double digit at the boxoffice.
Dabangg 2:The Salman Khan starrer led the year in 2012 but 2012 didn’t see much growth. Biggest film of the year Ek Tha Tiger of Salman Khan didn’t see release but another film of Salman Khan i.e. Dabangg 2 released and saw decent business. Film collected 5.75cr approx which wasn’t a massive business but was enough to become the highest grosser of the year in the otherwise dull year at the boxoffice.
Dhoom 3: This film set the boxoffice on fire in 2013. Film broke the previous lifetime records with leaps and bounds. Film became first film to hit 20cr mark and collected 25cr approx. Film broke the previous lifetime record with the lead of more than 100%. No other lifetime record has been able to create lead with this much margin. Film still stands tall as the highest grosser of Aamir Khan in Pakistan. It’s been five years and film is still the third highest grossing Hindi film in Pakistan.
PK: Followed by the mega success of Dhoom 3, Aamir Khan delivered another blockbuster in 2014. Actor’s PK went on to collect over 22cr approx. Even though film couldn’t beat numbers of 2013’s Dhoom 3 but still emerged as a blockbuster and the highest grosser of 2014.
JPNA: 2015 started the era of Humayun Saeed. Actor’s Jawani Phir Nahi Ani became the first film in the history of Pakistani cinema to hit 30cr. Film collected 34cr approx back in 2015 which is still the 5th highest grosser of all time till date.
Sultan: Salman Khan came back in form in 2016 with Sultan. Film became the highest grosser of 2016 by collecting over 33cr approx. Film missed the all time record by slim margins but set opening records on fire. Film’s opening day, weekend and week records are still intact and no film has been able to breach them till now.
PNJ: 2017 saw Humayun Saeed leading again with Punjab Nahi Jaungi. Film collected over 35cr approx and became the first film to hit 35cr mark. It also became the highest grosser of all time. With this one, Humayun Saeed joined the league of Salman Khan and Aamir Khan with two films each as highest grossers of the year.
JPNA2: 2018 has done splendid business for the industry. Humayun Saeed has become the first actor to lead in a consecutive year with Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 became the first film to hit the 50cr mark. Film has collected 52cr approx at the boxoffice.
In last four years, three of Hamayun Saeed’s films have secured the title of highest grosser of the year.
Following is the list of films that ruled the following years in Pakistan :
