Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan have been approached to star in an ambitious project. The two highly esteemed superstars will be uniting on screen after 11 years for a film which is to be produced on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. The Film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s popular historical novel Ponniyin Selvan.
We last witnessed the magic of the Bachchans together in 2008. Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starred together in Sarkar Raj. The pretty actress Aishwarya was last seen in Fanny Khan in 2018 whereas the illustrious actor Amitabh Bachchan starred in Thugs of Hindostan alongside Aamir Khan.
Leading Indian publications have quoted a source as saying, “It’s a big-budget historical drama, which is being planned on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. It’s likely to be a bilingual project and star several other big names from the South Indian film industry. Mani Ratnam approached his muse Aishwarya for the female lead and she signed on the dotted line.”
The five-volume novel tells the tale of Arulmozhivarman, who was crowned as Rajaraja Chola I during the 10th and 11th century. While Aishwaraya Rai has already signed the film as the protagonist, Big B is taking his time to consider.
As reported, the
source revealed that the director has narrated the
script to Amitabh Bachchan. He is taking his time to decide whether he
would like to do it. A confirmation from his end is yet to come but he has
liked the idea.
The period drama which is being helmed
by Mani Ratnam will have an ensemble cast including actors from South India and
Bollywood. The film is anticipated to be a master piece.
The source also added “There will be
an ensemble cast. The actors have already been asked to give bulk dates and
commit a few years to this film, as it will be made in several parts. The book
has five volumes, but the makers are planning to conceptualise it as three
installments on screen.”
