“Ab Dekh Khuda Kia Karta Hai” is a GEO TV serial based on workplace harassment. Written by Syed Ameer Ali Shah Hussaini and directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama, the serial stars Danish Taimoor, Sanam Chaudhry, Sajida Syed, Qavi Khan, Parveen Akbar and many others.
The latest episode of “Ab Dekh Khuda Kia Karta Hai” started with Jaan e Alam (Danish Taimoor) flying back to Karachi due to an investigation taking place regarding his employee, Noor-us-Sabah’s (Yashma Gill) suicide. While the other female employees of Jaan-e-Alam keep their information hidden in order to save themselves from court cases, the police succeed in extracting out many details proving that the person behind Noor-us-Subah’s suicide is her boss. However, making use of his authoritative position and affluence, Jaan-e-Alam, alongwith his secretary (Rashid Farooqi), bribes the policeman investigating them and makes him close the case file. On the other hand, Noor-us-Sabah’s suicide results in frightening Mariam (Sanam Chaudhry) to the extent that she starts apprehending that she might become the target of similar activities of which Noor-us-Sabah became a victim. But her parents, unaware of Jaan-e-Alam’s debauchery, convince her that her pious character would lead her to no harm. To further strengthen their belief in Mariam’s ensured safety, Jaan-e-Alam lends Mariam excessive money for her father’s (Qavi Khan) operation.
The episode, however, ended on a haunting note by Jaan-e-Alam inveigling Mariam into believing that he needs her for the decoration of a party he has called for the minister, while his real intention is of dressing her up and using her for an “all-men” gathering. Mariam is made to stay at Jaan-e-Alam’s farmhouse and is cleverly forced to dress up in a flamboyant manner. She is then presented before the minister without consent who tries to approach her for sexual advances.
The episode told how people of our society are not ready to blame the molester but the molested. On seeing Noor-us-Sabah’s pictures with Jaan-e-Alam, Mariam’s mother (Parveen Akbar) starts accusing the girl for all that happened and compares her to her pious daughter, who she thinks cannot become the victim of harassment because she is not characterless like Noor-us-Saba. The other bitter realities shown in the episode were related to bribery present at large in our police stations, and also woman objectification, depicted in the last scene when Mariam is dressed up for the minister to enjoy.
What keeps us curious for the next episode is what will happen to Mariam. Will she be able to escape from her boss and the minister or will she become a victim of their molestation? Will her father who is a heart patient be able to survive if told about the incident?
