Tom Brookshier,Serena Williams Boyfriend: a former defensive back with the Philadelphia Eagles who went on to broadcast National Football League games on television, had died at 78.
Brookshier, a member of Philadelphia’s 1960 NFL championship club, died last night, the team said on its Web site. He played with the Eagles from 1953-61, recording 20 interceptions, and twice was named All-Pro.
Following his retirement as a player, Brookshier began a career in the media. After starting locally in Philadelphia, he worked with former NFL player Pat Summerall to form CBS Corp.’s top football announcing team during the 1970s.
Brookshier is one of only seven players to have his uniform number retired by the Eagles. He was also inducted into the team’s Honor Roll in 1989.
