I If you have a plan to visit a great place like heaven on earth then you must try to go Iceland. In many ways I have been visually preparing for it with trips to other locations over the years. In Hawaii, I experienced the volcanic landscape; in Alaska, the icebergs and tidewater glaciers and waterfalls pouring off steep cliffs. That was the place to spent time in Maine photographing waves crashing against the rocky shore, and in Columbia River Gorge, the water flowing over columnar basalt, just like Svartifoss in Iceland. Here you can dealt with all sorts of weather, – even sunshine – when making the landscape images, so the changing weather of Iceland will be familiar to me. But just imagine when you will still be bowled over by the wonder and beauty of it all when you arrive, and I am sure not to be alone in that.
Landscapes that are stark, hugely dramatic and places that have every changing weather fascinate you. Perhaps because I challenged to find the images that capture the essence of the place. It might be a large scenic view, or a tiny flower pushing up through cracks in the lava rocks.
