Mayor Michael Blomberg, complete with hand men gloves, managed to coax the reluctant groundhog out from his home.The mayor says Chuck did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring for us this year.

There were no repeats of last year, when Chuck bit the mayor’s finger. The mayor was given a pair of boxing clubs, just in case but he did not have to use them at all.

Mayor match was at peak. The re-match between Mayor Bloomberg and Staten Island Chuck went off without a hitch this morning, with the feisty groundhog transformed into a veritable docile lamb.
Bloomberg came prepared with a pair of the heavy duty gloves which was by the switch from last year, when Chuck managed to take a chunk out of the mayoral index finger, biting right through his black leather dress gloves. But the precautions turned out to be unnecessary, as DN City Hall Bureau Chief Adam Lisberg reports, and video shows. Chuck saw his shadow of early spring and Bloomberg escaped unscathed.
