Salman Khan’s Sultan released in 2016 on Eid. The film managed to set records which stand undisputed even today. Sultan collected 3.41 cr approx on its opening day and became the first film to see an opening of above 3 crore. The film’s record has been unbeaten till now and it seems the records will remain intact a few more months. Our best bet is that Avengers Endgame and Fawad Khan starrer The Legend of Maula Jatt may be able to beat these records.
Sultan also holds the record of generating the highest gross in a day. The film managed to rake in 4cr in a single day in Pakistan as it collected around 4.08cr approx on it’s second day in Pakistan.
Thirdly, the opening weekend record of Sultan is still intact too. While Sultan collected 11.25cr approx in it’s opening Weekend, no other film has been able to cross 11cr mark in their first three days. Although Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju did manage to go over 10cr mark in its opening Weekend but it could not reach the 11cr mark.
Sultan then went on to collect 21.15cr approx in it’s first Week and it was the first film back then to rake in 20cr crossing the previous record in Pakistan of 15cr in its first week. The only film to come close to these figures has been Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 at 20.75cr approx. The Legend Of Maula Jatt is the only Pakistani film anticipated to beat this number this year.
Succinctly, all opening and single day records stand with Sultan since last 2.5 years. No film has managed to break even a single opening day record of Sultan.
It should also be mentioned that Salman Khan’s recent films have not seen release in Pakistan after Sultan. Race 3 did release however it was released a week late whereas Tiger Zinda Hai and Tubelight did not release in Pakistan.
In addition, Shahrukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer Raees and Aamir Khan’s Dangal did not see release in Pakistan. The two major films had a lot of chances of beating these records, however given the current situation Sultan is an undisputed winner.
Salman Khan is currently wrapping up the shoot of his next film Bharat. Bharaat stars Katrina Kaif alongside him. However it is uncertain if Bharat will release in Pakistan or not.
In addition, as per reports, Arbaz Khan recently confirmed that the filming of Dabangg 3 will begin shortly. Looks like we have two more Salman Khan Starrers releasing soon! Question remains, which film will be able to beat Sultan’s records?
