Posters of Pakistani Movies Jackpot and Gum

This Week saw release of two local films but both films have failed miserably at box office.

Firstly Sami Khan and Shamoon Abbasi starrer Gumm has seen empty houses all across Pakistan. Those who went to watch had to wait for the cinema to sell a few tickets for the movie to get started!

Gumm looked like an art/thriller film from trailer having niche target audiences. The film was also very well received internationally at various film festivals. So it was expected to do well here as well but there are practically zero collection of the film so far. Cinema goers have rejected the film right away. Many shows of the film have been cancelled in first six days of the release.

Film has collected under 10 lacs approx so far in six days as per estimates and will finish run under 10 lacs mark which is extremely poor result.

Other local release of the Week was Jackpot and which was in fact re-released. Film had seen extremely low results when it was first released. Yet makers opted for the re release placing blame on tough competitor Sanju. Film got good number of shows considering it’s a re release.

Its box office collection is as bad as Gumm but it is not on par either. Even though film has edged past Gumm with a slim margin by going around 15 lacs till now as per estimates.

Considering Jackpot is a commercial comedy film which usually pulls greater audience than an art film, its performance is actually worse than Gumm .

Movies that have been released weeks before these two are still doing better than the new release. In fact the Pakistani animation 3 Bahadur 3 has done better over the weekend which has been running for the past five weeks now!
